Class Review 4/28/09

I started using a new curriculum specifically for this 3rd grade class.
it's an ESL curric. called CATCH. It is starting out waaay basic, and I'm hoping it'll help me gague out the kids who are way advanced and the ones who can't even read, because the group is DEFINITELY very stratified. Allover, they seem to be a very bright, smart group. and I'm excited to see how far I can take them this term.
CATCH--Lesson ! part 1

Objectives: Students will sight-read (and understand) new vocabularywords. They will use their previous classwork to identify written color words in a coloring by word picture. will read together and understand that before a person title or animal, we use the word, a or an.

Key Phrases:
What's your name?
I'm ________.
Who are you?
I'm a ______.

Vocabulary & grammar points
girl, boy, teacher, student, monster, a mouse, an elephant.

Worksheets from Catch student&activitybooks/grade 1 word book.
pp1,2,3,4.

Goals for next lesson. Part 2 of lesson 1 is identifying classroom objects:
pencil, chair, book, table, board, notebook, pen, bookshelf--in a cut & paste activity
And play a game using the directional phrases,
Stand up, sit down, listen, look, stop!
I've noticed some of the students have very little reading skill, and some read perfectly. I want to incorporate phonics mini-lessons into each lesson. a good review for the kids who can already read, and I hope it'll make the other kids feel like they're being sneaky under the radar while really getting in some good letter-sound identification.
I really like this class! they're clever and good-natured! I'm excited to go on this english class journey with them, and I hope that they learn a lot. if they don't, then I know it's my fault, because all of them is trying!
