Class Review 4/7/09

Class went very well today. we started with attendance, repeating everyone's korean & English name. One new student today, 헤린, became Helene. It seems logical. I am getting pretty good at just pulling name substitues out of my hat, or letting kids feel okay if we have to tweek the name so we don't have two of each. In 4th grade special, we now have Kara/Kira, Christie/Chrissy, and June/Jane. Sara/SaraH. In this class I only have that problem with Mia/Maya & Genie/Gina. I figure it's a good lesson in culture--because if someone has a different name in an American classroom, one kid always has to change, or add the first letter of his/her last name to their title. So week #2 & names it has all been sorted!

After attendence, we talked about "How are you?"
Learned the Chant, "Hey, hello how are you?" "I am _______, how are you?"
and using flashcards, we learned sick, hungry, thirsty & well. Went around the class asking how are you and answering depending on which card I was holding up.

Then, we went over COLORS: our topic of the day.
Using flashcards, we learned red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, white.
learned the rainbow, rainbow, colors of the rainbow song.
Each kid got a card to hold up and when they heard their card name, they had to hold it up. We sang it several times, each time getting faster and a teeny more chaotic. It was really fun!

Played around the world using color flashcards.

Colored a rainbow picture, cut it out and pasted it on the window.---soo pretty!
after class, I made multi-colored raindrops for the rainbows, and a flower. each drop/petal has the color name on it.

Goals for next week: continue to talk about greetings, "how are you?" and different answers. EACH CLASS SHOULD BEGIN WITH A NEW GREETING TOPIC, 5-10 MINS ONLY. AS A FRIENDLY FRIENDLY WARM-UP.
breifly review colors, then get into the alphabet. students will read & say aloud together, color by listening, play BINGO, and maybe do a letter scavenger hunt!
